Early June I was eating watermelon in our back yard under the
walnut tree.  A hummingbird began buzzing me, but that is
not so unusual.  In my experience hummers are very curious and
will come quite close if you sit still; I did have a
piece of watermelon in my hand, and they are attracted to
the color red.  So I was enjoying watching the little bird darting around me
when suddenly my eyes focused on her nest!  Just about 8
feet from where I sat, on a low hanging branch.  This little mother is far too jittery for me
to get a photo of her on the nest, but enjoy the baby
            hummingbirds!
For context, the nest is the size of a golf ball & the eggs, the size of navy beans.  And for interest, the main construction material is spider web!  Bits of other material are woven in, but it is the spider silk that gives the nest it's toughness and flexibility, allowing the nest to stretch to accommodate the growing babies.
